The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the classic image used to represent Italy. This monument stands (or should we say, tilts) proudly in the Piazza dei Miracoli, Pisa’s main square. While the tower is what often draws tourists to Pisa, it’s original purpose was simply that of a bell tower for the neighboring Cathedral and Baptistry, impressive for both their size and their beauty.
Visitors will find that, if their schedule permits a longer stay in the city, Pisa has much to offer. The historic center is comprised of quaint streets, cafes, and squares. The Arno river, which runs through the city, offers a great place to stroll, especially while enjoying a gelato.
