Few towns in Tuscany are as iconic and picturesque as San Gimignano, recognized for its well preserved medieval architecture and towers, about a dozen of which can still be seen rising above the town. At its prime in the 12th century San Gimignano was a cultural and business center for the region. More than 70 towers rose within the small confines of the village and were evidence of the village's wealth and power. The abundance of culture and wine have given new life to this historic town, as visitors flock to wander it's ancient streets and take in the views of the surrounding countryside.
